Book on Rogers family drama being adapted into live stage play
It’s official! A live stage play adaptation of Rogers v. Rogers: The Battle for Control of Canada’s Telecom Empire is in development for Crow’s Theatre. Penned by the Globe and Mail‘s Alexandra Posadzki, Rogers v. Rogers chronicles the tribulations of the Rogers family’s bid to control Canada’s telecom empire.
Posadzki’s Rogers v. Rogers debuted in 2024 and quickly became a best-seller. Now, CookeMcDermid, a famed literary agency, has announced that the book is being adapted for the Toronto-based Crow’s Theatre.
The book tells the story of the very public internal struggle within the Rogers family as they battled for control over the Rogers brand and direction following the death of founder Ted Rogers. Many refer to the story as ‘Canada’s Succession’. The crux of the feud lies between Edward Rogers and the in-fighting with his sisters and mother. The retelling also includes former Toronto mayor John Tory, who worked for Rogers in the 1990s before becoming an advisor to the Rogers Control Trust.
The Rogers v. Rogers adaptation is currently “under option and development” at the theatre. Chris Abraham is attached as artistic director with Sherrie Johnson on board as executive producer. Michael Healey, who’s known for The Drawer Boy and The Master Plan is attached as a playwright, adapting Posadzki’s work.
It’s still early days for the adaptation. There’s no word on when it may debut at Crow’s Theatre. However, for those unaware of the conflicts that occurred across the Rogers family, it’s an enrapturing tale that’s worth retelling for a theatrical stage.
