Fido emailing former customers a $34/50GB win-back deal
Fido is sending out special $34/50GB plan offers to some former customers.
I received one such email from Fido with a somewhat desperate-sounding subject line asking “can we talk?” and then begging me to give it “one more chance.”
The special plan Fido offered me was a $34/50GB plan with 4G data (speeds capped at up to 150Mbps) and unlimited calling and texting. The deal is only for if i bring my own phone (BYOP) and requires a promo code included in the email and the same phone number I previously used with Fido.
The deal also has an expiry of November 30th.
Fine print on the deal notes that the $34 price includes a $21/mo bill credit, making the real cost of the plan $55/mo, and the credit will be applied by the third bill. (Notably, Fido doesn’t offer a $55/50GB plan on its website.) The fine print doesn’t mention an expiry date for the bill credit, though it does warn that getting a phone or changing the plan “may cancel the credit.” It also doesn’t guarantee the $34/mo price since Fido can freely increase the cost of the base $55 plan while still honouring the credit.
Oh, and the fine print also notes that the $70 connection fee applies.
All in all, not a particularly impressive deal from Fido here. Wireless providers having been offering variations on $34/50GB since Black Friday last year and personally, I think there are better options out there. For example, a dollar more per month gets me 50GB of 5G data and Canada/U.S./Mexico roaming at Freedom Mobile. Public Mobile has $35/50GB 4G and $36/50GB 5G Canada/U.S. plans.
Coupled with my previous poor experience using Fido, I don’t think I’ll be taking the company up on this offer. Thankfully, because it expires on November 30th, I’ll have a chance to see if there are better deals on Black Friday before making a final decision.
Anyway, former Fido customers may want to check their emails for similar offers. Who knows, you might be able to score a deal.
